NVDA stock split just trashed Investing/Portfolio report - Shares & Price (edit) (2024)

I own some shares in NVIDIA, which this morning opened with a 10:1 stock split. I accepted the split in Quicken from this dialog:

NVDA stock split just trashed Investing/Portfolio report - Shares & Price (edit) (2)

So now, my Investing/Portfolio (probably among other reports) is total trash. Here are the problems I see in the report:

-Quote/price is 1/10th of what it should be - it's showing as $12.08 a share instead of $120.80

-Market value is 10% of what it should be

-Cost basis in dollars is correct

    -Average cost/share is correct

    -Gain/loss is wrong

-ROI and Annual return are wrong

    -Income in dollars is correct

and of course, it is wrecked those calculations for my entire portfolio.

If I say No/Clear the question on accepting the split that I show above, then:

    -Price/share is now correct

    -Shares are wrong

    -Market value is correct

-Cost basis (dollars) is correct, cost/share is wrong

-Gain/loss, ROI, annual return is wrong

So either way everything gets hosed!

Should I do something different, to have this stock split work correctly, either from a backup or at this point? How do I correct/fix this? Thanks!

Whew found the answer - Enter a stock split BEFORE you download transactions! Instructions are here:

      https://help.quicken.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=3216615

Maybe something different in lieu of that dialog box should be presented, as the user is hosed if they did not know a stock split was coming - the "enter stock split has to be done before downloading quotes, etc.!

      Hope this helps someone..

Actually I spoke to soon, On the next download transactions, it apparently accepted a stock split without the dialog box I showed above, so after entering the stock split transaction manually and having everything correct, the price, market value, cost/share, gain/loss, ROI, Annual return are all 10% of the correct values again.

      Help!

Same problem here: Nvidia's stock value in Quicken is 10% of what it should be. It looks like the 10:1 split went in correctly, but Quicken has divided the correct new price by 10. I can't see where it's doing that, though. The stock price history shows the last price as being the correct-ish one (about $120/shr). But, the portfolio is showing the price at about $12/shr.

Often when there is a split, the date of the price change in Quicken's quote feed is off by a few days.

It may be necessary to edit the price history so that the price jump occurs on the same day as the split.

Also make sure you have only recorded one split, not two.

    • OK, I think it's working. The key was not only entering the stock split transaction, but I had to enter the new current price, which the dialog box for Enter Stock Split says is "optional". At least in this case, it's not optional - without a value there, Quicken will calculate the price incorrectly.

So the complete solution, if you have stumbled onto this problem with NVDA this morning:

      1. Recover your last backup.
      2. Manually enter a stock split transaction for NVDA - old shares 1, new shares 10. ENTER the stock price which is 10% of the closing price from Friday afternoon (should be ~ $120.888) - this is important, the dialog box says optional - enter it. Enter effective date today, 6/10. Close the box.
      3. Verify in investment report only quote price, shares, and average cost per share have changed. Other values (market value, cost basis in dollars, gain/loss in dollars, income, ROI, Annual Return %, etc.) should not change.
      4. Download transactions from your brokerage - this is what will download the stock split instructions.
      5. It should not have changed anything - verify all is correct!

Just checking Q (Premier, Version R56.9, Build 27.1.59.9; running on Windows 10) after downloading transactions for past few days. Looks like Q started reporting NVDA price per share as if the 10:1 Sock Split occurred on 6/3, NOT after close on 6/7. What is causing this? It is not like this is a surprise to anyone!

After entering the NVDA stock split 10-1 transaction, my number of shares remain the same.

I am showing a massive loss in my portfolio because the share numbers have not increased.

Why is the stock split transaction NOT working?

How do I adjust the shares manually if Quicken can't do simple math?

Are you sure the number of shares is wrong? It worked for me but the issue is with the price for the prior 5 days. This is always the issue with stock splits. For some reason the Quicken Quote service incorrectly adjusts the price on the security for the last 5 days. If you go back and change the price for these days it will mostly fix the issue. It seems the only issue it does not fix is the total daily gain/loss on the account with the security. The individual security will be fine and the total portfolio is fine but the total for the account will still be off (not sure why other than it is a bug)

Today's number of shares do not change after entering Friday's stock split 10-1.

Did you enter it manually or did the One Step Update suggest the split and enter the adjustment? I let the One Step Update enter the split shares and it worked fine.

one of my accounts (Roth) had 25 shares of NVDA before the split. After downloading all accounts this morning, there are NO NVDA shares shown in the Q portfolio - there should be 250. Tried to d/l multiple times, and checked on the brokerage web site to verify the 250 shares are in the portfolio. ???

check the Security Detail for NVDA in Quicken to see how many Quicken shares and which Quicken accounts -

Also - Quicken messes up with Splits - my NVDA showed the split price going back to 6/3 vs as of 6/10 -
I did get the split transaction from Schwab - so different brokerages may have different timelines for handling splits -

Not sure how the NVDA would totally disappear from your holdings - again, look at the Security Detail -

I did notice the column "Day Gain/Loss" in the Portfolio report has a larger than normal number - not sure how that's being calculated. But the price and shares are correct so that problem will probably go away tomorrow.

I knew I wouldn't be the only one with Quicken problems today with the Nvidia split. For me, the "Price Day Change" value and % are way off. I looked at the price history and it looks like the last week's prices have been split adjusted. So the "Price Day Change" is not calculated off of that value. Does anyone know how that is calculated? I wish I had a 910% gain in one day. I hope tomorrow everything will be correct.

@Quicken Jasmine the issue with the incorrect share price following a split has happened many times in the past, it is an error by the quote provider. It would sure be nice if this was fixed.

as shown here - the NVDA price/quote was already showing the 10:1 price split quote as of 6/3 - a week ago -
I've updated the price back to a general $1,100 for each day of the entire week -
you can see the orig bogus 10:1 price quote displayed in the LOW entry -

This pretty much happens every SPLIT - the bogus quotes are downloaded for the week before the split -
Guessing some market announcement is the trigger vs the actual day of the split -

I have NVDA shares in TWO different Quicken accounts. The stock split transaction only applied to one account. I had to manually enter a second stock split transaction into account #2 in order to see the correct number of shares. Why would the stock split transaction even have an 'account' field? The stock is going to split no matter what account it is in.

stock splits with quicken are always wrong and need manual fixing. why is this? It isnt even math, it is arithmetic. Come on folks get this fixed. I saw the dialogue box and accepted it. My shares and price were all correct. My portfolio total was correct but my day gain was $60,000 more then it should be. Security details confirmed split price and new shares are correct. Please advise
